Toward a More Perfect Union
We are in the midst of a revolution America has needed since its founding.
A great turning and unlearning.
The extent of systemic racism is being exposed and uprooted.
I am asking myself these questions:
How should I reset priorities, deeply listen, learn, integrate, act? How can I serve our way into joyful community? How do I equally prioritize contemplation—deep listening and integration—and action? Hustle and flow?
How can we become weighty in bending the arc of the moral universe toward justice, equality, and love?
How can we extend the legacy and work of the love warriors who have gone before?
What does it mean, right now,
to be a Love Warrior?
I love the way Brené Brown signs off her phenomenal new podcast with 'Let's continue to be awkward, brave, and kind.' Revolution and evolution is awkward because it is unprecedented. Bravery, humility, and kindness can pave a way forward.
I am committed to building communities—families, businesses, organizations—of nothing short of reverence for all. That amplify marginalized voices and follow leadership of those who have been disempowered. That spread a welcome mat of mutual vulnerability for the stories we are re-writing and the dreams we are creating.
I am grateful for the voices of these brilliant black leaders, post-colonial theorists, and activists. As an eternal student, I sit at their feet and follow their lead, and welcome your input on how to build, as the U.S. Constitution puts it, a more perfect union. In the comments below, please share resources that would enrich the conversation. I welcome your input on the inclusivity of experiences I—we—create.
Onward. Heartward.
